“Are Boho Braids Really Worth It?”

Boho Braids: Cute? Yes. Worth It? Eh… Let’s Talk About It.

Let me go ahead and say it:
Boho braids are pretty—but they’re not always practical. I said what I said. 😅

Now before the braiding community comes for me with combs and crochet hooks, hear me out. I’ve braided boho styles with synthetic hair and I’ve braided them with human hair… and guess what? Both types of hair mat up. Fast. Like, before your edges even start acting up.

✨ The Look Is Lovely… Until It Isn’t

Let’s be honest: that loose, carefree, goddess vibe that boho braids give is gorgeous—no doubt about it. But what’s not so cute is when the loose pieces start matting, tangling, and looking like they lost the plot three days into your install.

What’s even worse?
Your braids themselves will probably outlast the boho hair you paid extra for. That’s not just frustrating—it’s disappointing.

💸 So… Is It Worth the Price Tag?

In my experience? Not really.

Stylists charge more for boho braids because it takes longer and requires extra hair—but if that added flair starts looking worn out while the rest of your style is still thriving, did you really get your money’s worth?

🔄 My Alternative: The Crochet Hack

Here’s what I do for my clients (because I believe in style and sense):
Instead of braiding the boho hair into the style, I suggest they get regular braids—and then crochet in the boho hair afterward.

Why?

  • You can add as much or as little as you like.

  • If it mats up, you can pull it out—no scissors, no blunt ends, no regrets.

  • It’s easy. Like, one-minute-to-learn easy.
I take the time to show each client how to do it themselves, so they can refresh their look without coming back to the salon or spending extra money.

🤎 Why I Do This

Being a good stylist isn’t just about how many services I can sell—it’s about how much value I can provide. I care about your hair, your wallet, and your peace of mind.

My goal is to help my clients maintain healthy hair and make smart styling decisions. Boho braids are cute—but crocheting the boho pieces gives you the look you want with the freedom you need.

🗣 Final Word (Before Y’all Come for Me)

Some stylists might swear by their vendor or say the boho hair just needs proper care—and hey, that might work for them! But from where I stand, if something is high maintenance, high-priced, and short-lived, then we need to rethink the process.

Because around here? We don’t just braid—we educate, protect, and elevate. Period.
